Engaged by Chevron UK and working in conjunction with international design group HOK, this project was to design and fit-out their new office space at level 3, 2 Marischal Square, Aberdeen.

The brief for Chevron UK was to provide both open-plan and cellular office accommodation for 68 people, including formal meeting rooms, informal break-out spaces, pod accommodation, and a new canteen, but the ‘shell’ of the stair and toilet cores were to remain as existing.  A BREEAM (a holistic sustainability assessment framework) target of ‘Excellent’ was briefed and achieved.

In addition to obtaining client approvals for the design, landlord consent and review was required at both the design and construction stages.  These reviews applied to all aspects of the project, including architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical. This process had to be factored into overall development programme and tight deadlines met.

Once on site, the physical aspects of working in a multi-level building occupied by a number of companies, presented its own challenges, particularly when running mechanical and electrical pipe and ductwork between level three and the roof plant area. The physical challenges of what could be physically fitted into the existing goods lift significantly restricted material sizes and weights. All pre-contract matters and approvals were completed during the latter nine months of 2020, with physical works on site successfully completed by June 2021.

Weekly site inspections of the office were carried out throughout the on-site period to review progress and the quality of work and a schedule of issues circulated to close out only following re-inspection.
